About David Chadwick

{sp-cap}

My passion for capturing the moment and striving to place the viewer “in” the photograph first brought my skills to photograph weddings and provide landscape images to commercial clients. I believe that great photographs deserve the title “art” just as much (and sometimes more) than painting or sculpture. For a photograph to work, many elements have to come together at a single point in time. Technical skill, experience, conceiving the idea, weather, light, persistence, a bit of courage and a slice of luck are all resolve in an exposure of a few seconds at most – and then they are gone. There is a story behind all photographs and I would like to share some of mine with you on this site.

I work almost exclusively in the digital medium finding that this gives me great flexibility for different types of photography. However, my aim is always to get in right “in camera”. Like most good photographers I would insist that the equipment does not make a great photograph, but carrying it to incredible places, and knowing how to use it instinctively when you get there, does. My distinctive style in landscape photography owes much to the fact that many of my photographs are created at the start and end of the day and the long exposures that this generally entails. Also, I’m not shy of getting myself into unique view points to provide a different perspective of familiar scenes.

Many a happy hour has been spent up to my waist in water in the dark! I carry that same enthusiasm for capturing that single moment in every wedding I photograph – I can honestly say that you will not find a harder working photographer or one more dedicated to capturing the images surpass expectations. I’m proud to say that many of my clients have become firm friends and I value their personal recommendations above all else.

At the start of 2010, I moved to New Zealand. I now live in Nelson, with my partner Lisa, two cats and some chickens. The top of the South Island and the local area with its incredible diversity of natural landscapes (not to mention the great weather!) provides daily inspiration and opportunities and we’ve never been happier.

Choosing your wedding photographer can be a difficult decision. How do you know they are going to deliver what they say? How do you know they are going to fit into your day and not force you to fit into theirs?
